Studio Lighting Techniques for Photographers with Gary Hill – 7th March 2026, Cleckheaton, Yorkshire

This workshop is designed to help studio photographers master studio lighting techniques for photography. The course will provide an in-depth understanding of how light interacts with different subjects, and how to manipulate light to create stunning images. Students will learn how to use different types of lighting equipment, such as strobes, softboxes, umbrellas, and reflectors, to achieve desired lighting effects.

Through hands-on demonstrations and practical assignments, students will learn how to use light to create mood, depth, and dimension in their images. Topics covered in this workshop include:

  • Understanding light and shadow
  • Light modifiers and their effects
  • Creating and controlling contrast
  • Techniques for achieving even lighting
  • Working with multiple light sources
  • Creating a three-dimensional effect with lighting
  • Lighting for different genres of photography, such as portrait, fashion, and maternity.

Throughout the course, students will have the opportunity to experiment with different lighting setups and techniques to achieve different effects. They will also learn how to work with models and other subjects to create compelling images.

By the end of this day, students will have a solid understanding of advanced lighting techniques and how to use them to create stunning images in a studio setting. They will also have developed their own unique style and approach to lighting, which they can apply to their future photography projects.

Combine this with a second day, learning about Newborn Photography, on 8th March.
