Either way, this page explains what information I collect, why I collect it, and how I keep it safe.
The short version is:
- I only collect information I genuinely need to run my business properly.
- I donât sell your data.
- I donât do creepy or annoying things with your information.
- I treat your privacy with the same care Iâd expect for my own family.

Capture the Light Photography is a UK sole trader photography business.
2. What Information I Collect
Depending on how you interact with the website or book with me, I may collect things like:
- Your name
- Email address
- Phone number
- Address
- Booking information
- Session preferences
- Payment information
- Photos created during your session
- Information submitted through enquiry forms
- Website usage information (via cookies and analytics)
Basically, the normal sort of information needed to photograph your family, answer your enquiry, send your gallery, or stop the website from falling over.

- Fill in a contact form
- Book a photography session
- Purchase something through the online shop
- Sign a contract online
- Make a payment
- Leave a review
- Browse the website
- Watch embedded videos or Instagram content
- Contact me via email, phone or social media
Nothing particularly sinister. Mostly just normal website and business things.
4. How I Use Your Information
Your information may be used to:
- Reply to enquiries
- Organise and manage bookings
- Deliver photography services
- Send invoices, contracts and galleries
- Process payments
- Improve the website and customer experience
- Meet legal/accounting obligations
- Occasionally contact previous clients about something genuinely relevant (for example milestone sessions, Christmas minis, or offers connected to services youâve previously used)
I do not send spammy âBUY NOW!!!â style emails to random people. Frankly, nobody enjoys that.
I also do not sell your information to third parties. Partly because that would be horrible, and partly because Iâm a nice person who respects your personal data.
5. Legal Basis For Processing Your Data
Under UK GDPR, businesses must have a lawful reason for using your data. Mine are:
Contractual Necessity
If you book a session, I need certain information to actually provide the service.
(A newborn session would be difficult to organise if I didnât even know your name.)
Legal Obligations
Some information must be kept for accounting and tax purposes because HMRC enjoy paperwork almost as much as photographers enjoy buying camera lenses.
Legitimate Interests
Occasionally I may contact previous clients about services or sessions likely to be relevant to them.
This is done thoughtfully and reasonably, not by bombarding my entire database at 2am with twelve emails about glitter mini sessions.
Consent
For things like certain cookies or tracking technologies, your consent is requested where required.

I do not store your full payment card details myself because honestly, Iâd rather leave that to companies with entire cybersecurity departments.
7. Client Galleries & Image Storage

Client photographs and information are securely stored using trusted cloud-based systems and reasonable security measures.
Images may be retained for archive purposes unless deletion is requested where legally possible. This is partly practical, and partly because clients occasionally come back years later asking if I still have their newborn photos after changing laptops three times and surviving a hard drive disaster.

In plain English: they help me understand whether my website is working properly, rather than shouting into the void of the internet and hoping for the best.
11. How Long Information Is Kept
I only keep personal information for as long as reasonably necessary for:
- business purposes,
- legal obligations,
- accounting requirements,
- customer service,
- and archival purposes.
Photography images may be stored long-term unless deletion is requested.
Again, partly because clients often come back wanting extra prints years later, and partly because professional photographers are basically digital memory hoarders.

- Correct inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your information where applicable
- Object to certain types of processing
- Withdraw consent where consent is used
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Commissionerâs Office (ICO)

The latest version will always appear on this page.
Hopefully not too often, because rewriting privacy policies is not how most photographers dream of spending their evenings.
