Whether a first birthday or a fourth birthday, we will have so much fun celebrating your little one’s birthday with a cake smash! Your little one will enjoy exploring the cake with their hands or a spoon. They can make as much or as little mess as they want to. After this, your baby can have a splash in some bubbles in my miniature bathtub, which makes for some fantastic images and lots of splashy fun! We finish off with a cuddle in a warm towel and lots of amazing memories! If you prefer to have a simpler session, without a cake, then we can celebrate your little one’s birthday with a simpler set-up, or with a fruit smash – anything you want!
Birthday portraits aren’t just for one year olds! If your child is heading to their second third or even 10th birthday, we can design something just for them that will be loads of fun and will create lots of memories! Whether with or without a cake, or even to include afternoon tea or something alcoholic (for over 18s!), birthday photography fun can be for every age.
This is also a great opportunity to update your family images, too. Mum, dad and siblings are all welcome to join in, or we can create some separate family photographs, without the cake, before or after all the mess!

CAKE SMASH PHOTOSHOOT
Capture the Light Cake Smash Sessions are a LOT of fun! You choose a colour scheme or theme before your session, and I provide decorations and even a cake to match! Whether you want a bright rainbow, or a subtle natural look to your session, I can provide everything you will need. If you are worried about any allergies your baby may have, we can either provide an allergy-friendly cake or come up with an alternative instead. Jelly, fruit, or even a paint splash can be used to create some amazing images and to create an amazing mess!
We start every cake smash photoshoot with some portraits. The whole family is welcome to join in and it’s a great opportunity to create some artwork for your home, updating your family photographs. We then have fun with cake, and finish off with a splash in the bubbly bath. Great portraits and wonderful memories!

If you’re wondering what to expect from your cake smash photoshoot, you’re not alone.
Cake smash sessions are all about celebrating a big milestone in a fun, relaxed way, but it’s completely normal to have a few questions before you book.
Here are some of the most common things parents ask, so you know exactly what to expect.
When should I book a cake smash photoshoot?
Cake smash sessions are usually booked to celebrate a first birthday, but I’ve done them for second and third birthdays… I’ve even done a Fortieth Birthday Cake Smash!
Most people book their session in for a few weeks before the birthday date. Leaving enough time is important if you’d like the images ready for birthday celebrations. I’d recommend booking in advance to secure your preferred date, as popular dates do get booked early.
Do you provide the cake and balloons for the session?
Yes! The cake is included as part of your cake smash experience.
I work with trusted suppliers to ensure the cake looks beautiful and is suitable for little ones. If your baby has any allergies or dietary requirements, we can plan this together to make sure everything is safe.
What if my baby doesn’t like the cake or won’t get messy?
This happens more often than you might think — and that’s absolutely fine.
Every baby reacts differently. Some dive straight in, others take their time, and some aren’t sure at all. We gently encourage, but never force anything. and I have a selection of spoons for little ones who don’t want to get mucky fingers, but want to try the cake!
We always capture a variety of images before the cake comes out, so you’ll still have beautiful portraits whatever happens.
What should my baby wear for the cake smash?
I have a selection of outfits available for one-year-olds that you can choose from – there is no need to buy anything to get covered in cake! Plus, when you use mine, I do the washing!!
If you do have something special you want your baby to wear for the family portraits, the cake smash, or both, then do bring it along and we will include it.
What happens after the cake smash?
After the cake fun, we usually move on to a bubbly bath or splash session, which is not only practical, but also a lovely chance for more playful, smiley images.
It’s a relaxed and enjoyable way to finish the session, and often where we capture some of the happiest moments.
How much does a cake smash photoshoot cost?
I charge £75 for the cake smash session, and this covers your time in the studio, the decorations, balloon arch, cake and all the clean up afterwards.
The prices for digital collections are below, and many people also choose prints, wall art and albums too. The great thing is that you don’t have to decide how many images you will purchase, or how you will display them, until you see them all when you come for your preview appointment.
It means that, if you don’t love them, you don’t have to have them.
The booking Fee for a Cake Smash is £75, which includes your session time, use of all my props and outfits, decorations and your cake. You then come and view your edited images and choose your final images from your gallery. There is no hard-sell – the choice is all yours to make.
